Have you ever been just doing great?
Not by your own merit of course, but you know, simply living dependent on God and walking in the ways and places He has called you to.
And then, all of a sudden, a roadblock appears. You lose your voice the night before you are supposed to share your testimony. You lose your job right after you close on your new home. You and your husband have a huge fight after you minister to a woman struggling in her own marriage!
Some people would just say these circumstances are coincidences or just “life”. Up until recently I was that person.
I would say, “That’s life.”
Bad and inconvenient things will happen, but sometimes, it could simply be opposition from the enemy.
September was kind of a crazy month for me! On top of announcing my new business venture to close friends and starting a new series for my online ministry, I was stepping up at my church to lead prayer and a small group.
I felt like I was doing what I was supposed to do - not from a place of striving, but a place of abiding in the Father and letting him flow through me in the ways and places He has called me to be.
Then out of nowhere, I was hit with unforeseen stomach issues and then insane allergies! Imagine sitting inside a cloud of pollen and just breathing in all of the particles. No exaggeration, but that is how I felt. My face was swollen. It hurt. My throat and eyes burned. You name an allergy symptom, and I had it!
I tried to chalk up this sickness to just life and thought I would be better in a few days. Nope, not one bit! I was actually progressively getting worse.
I evaluated my eating habits, took medication, and nothing. I still felt awful.
In the midst of this allergy fiasco, I was being contacted by other ministries that wanted me to speak to their ministry about Unveiling Eden.
It was then that I started to realize this was not an ordinary sickness, but opposition from the enemy.
The Bible tells us the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy! (John 10:10)
The enemy hates us! We are the Holy Spirit’s dwelling place. And as we allow the Father to refine and purify us, we become a better mirror image of the Father on the earth! And man, oh man, does that scare Satan.
Instead of allowing the enemy’s attacks to knock me down and cause me to mope and stay home, I had a friend encourage me. I had opened up to her about how I believed this was a spiritual attack. She told me to firstly, pray over all the medicine and essential oils I took and declare my healing. She also told me no matter how bad I was feeling to take part in life like normal. She encouraged me to go about life like normal and fight against this attack.
So, that was exactly what I did. I did not cancel Bible Study when I felt sick. I went to prayer and prayed on a microphone despite my throat burning. Both times, I felt better leaving those places than when I first showed up.
The enemy wants nothing more than to knock you off the path you are walking on.
“The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.” Proverbs 4:18-19 (NIV)
God has a bright future for your life. If you are under attack today, I want you to know you are not alone.
I am reminded of the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These men refused to serve false gods and were willing to be thrown in a furnace instead. King Nebuchadnezzar was furious and commanded that the fiery furnace be heated seven times hotter than usual. The three men were thrown in the fiery furnace. The flames were so hot the soldiers that threw them in were killed by the flames.
“So Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, securely tied, fell into the roaring flames.
But suddenly, Nebuchadnezzar jumped up in amazement and exclaimed to his advisers, “Didn’t we tie up three men and throw them into the furnace?”
“Yes, Your Majesty, we certainly did,” they replied.
“Look!” Nebuchadnezzar shouted. “I see four men, unbound, walking around in the fire unharmed! And the fourth looks like a god!”
Then Nebuchadnezzar came as close as he could to the door of the flaming furnace and shouted: “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out! Come here!”
So Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stepped out of the fire. Then the high officers, officials, governors, and advisers crowded around them and saw that the fire had not touched them. Not a hair on their heads was singed, and their clothing was not scorched. They didn’t even smell of smoke!
Then Nebuchadnezzar said, “Praise to the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego! He sent his angel to rescue his servants who trusted in him. They defied the king’s command and were willing to die rather than serve or worship any god except their own God.” Daniel 3-23-28 (NLT)
What you may be going through right now may feel like a fiery furnace. Use this time of opposition to lean in closer to God and trust Him for your breakthrough. God is with you in the midst of your trial and instead of this trial burning you and killing you, it is refining you and purifying you.
Just like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, you will come out of this trial without even the scent of smoke. You will come out on the other side of this opposition closer to God and strengthened. Do not allow this trial to get you off course. Keep your eyes fixed on Christ, and He will see you through to the end.
“We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up.” Hebrews 12:3 (NLT)
