I am a reminiscent soul. My heart loves thinking about the past in a nostalgic way and seeing where my life has come since those days.
Facebook memories, while sometimes reminding me of embarrassing things, feeds this nostalgic part of myself. It reminds me of special moments I have spent with my husband the past 10 years. It shows just how much my 16-month-old is growing. It is a glimpse into each part of myself in the different stages of my life.
“Remember the things I have done in the past. For I alone am God! I am God, and there is none like me. Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish.” Isaiah 46:9-10 (NLT)
This past week, it reminded me just how faithful God has been. One year ago, I took a chance on a dream I had in my heart for years but never thought was possible for me. I took my starter camera, invested in some photography courses, and dove straight into my love for photography.
In this first year, I have had a steady stream of clients and have been able to bring in some extra income for my household.
The best part has been the circle God has placed around me in this process. My closest friends and family have really supported me each step of the way and remind me of my talent when I need it, which is often. I have also met several local photographers who have taught me and nurtured my skills in the most supportive ways imaginable. To top it all off, I have an army of loved ones who will step in to care for my son while I am out with clients or need some quiet time to edit.
I am not here to highlight myself, but to say, “Look what God has done.”
I truly believe this was a dream He placed in my heart so heavily during a time I was transitioning to life as a stay at home mom. I was praying for an avenue to bring in a little extra spending money for my family without giving up precious time with my sweet baby boy. I also really craved an outlet to be creative and not lose myself in motherhood. Man, did God answer that prayer for me!!
I have pursued other things in the past that just did not have the fruitfulness that God has brought forth through this. No, it has not been easy, but has been possible and blessed by Him.
Some days I get discouraged in my business, and think of ways I could be better. But looking back on all God has done in one year, makes me hopeful not just for the future of my business but my entire future in general.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT)
No matter what season you are in, I highly encourage you to look back on where you have come from and see the faithfulness of God to bring promises to fruition in your life.
Take some time today to reminisce on your life and thank God for His goodness. He was faithful then, and He will be faithful again. No matter how tough situations become or how long the waiting feels, rest in remembering all the good He has accomplished in the past.
